The TLT, headed by Dr. Jennie Dautermann, is dedicated to exploring excellence in pedagogyusing technology. It supports TLT Centers for Excellence on many SUNY campuses and sponsors an annual TLT conference every Fall. It is currently sponsoring research analyzing and improving retention in online courses. TLT also guides the MERLOT project.

This u-wide program researches and reports on scientific studies of the efficacy of technology and media, especially online learning technology, across SUNY, in calibration with national research efforts. Its recent and future focus is on retention in the online classroom and development of online learning best practices to preserve academic quality. TLT sponsors an annual u-wide conference, and partners with the u-wide instructional designers group, the Directors of Distance Learning, the CIO Council, and the Training Center, as well as nationally with Educause and the Sloan-C project.
